Background

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Center for Entrepreneurship was inaugurated on May 24, 2005 and is a research center under the Asia Pacific Institute of Business (APIB). The Group is an interdisciplinary association of scholars united by the research, teaching and community service in promoting entrepreneurship. Professors Kevin Au and Bee-leng Chua of the Management Department, Hugh Thomas of the Finance Department and Wong Kam Fai, Professor of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management are the core members. Prof. Kwok Siu Tong was instrumental in launching many initiatives which led to creation of the Center. In addition to this core group, more than 15 faculty members from across nine university departments are involved in the Center's activities.

The Center closely cooperates with the university's Research and Technology Administrative Office and the Center for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC), the Hong Kong Government's Department of Trade and Industry, Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, the Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences and many entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in the Pearl River Delta.

Mission

To understand, document and promote entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta, Greater China and the world through research, education and practice and, in the process, to establish The Chinese University of Hong Kong as a global leader in entrepreneurship research and education.

Vision

Our vision is to advance understanding of entrepreneurship in China and Hong Kong. Entrepreneurship is an attitude that predisposes a person to action. Entrepreneurs ceaselessly search for potential value creation and organize businesses to create value. Because entrepreneurship - in both new and existing enterprises - contributes to economic growth and social development, we believe that it should be understood and promoted as a vital part of business education to understanding entrepreneurship.

Objective

The Center pursues research, education and practice in entrepreneurship. We bring together scholars from different departments within the University, attract talent from the business community, involve CUHK in promoting entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, and provide a nexus for fundraising.
